DM-first selling, explained

Some products do not get bought. They get discussed into being bought — and selling those through a checkout is measuring the wrong door.

Some products do not get bought. They get discussed into being bought. Selling those through a website checkout is measuring the wrong door.

The Gallery sells personalised newborn gifts — names, dates, embroidery. Every order needs a conversation: spelling, sizing, a photograph of the nursery. The message is not friction before the sale. The message is the sale.

The creative's job changes

It does not push toward a product page — it starts a conversation. Ten creatives, each one engineered to earn a message rather than a click.

The optimisation changes

Campaigns optimise toward the inbox. Paying for website clicks when your buyers buy in chat is paying, very efficiently, for the wrong thing.

The measurement changes

The number is tracked where the sale actually closes, and reported weekly against what was agreed. For The Gallery that is $5.20–$6 back per $1 of ads, every campaign — not an average across one good quarter. The spend figure behind it is not published.
