01The comparisonThe short answer

Pakistan, India or the Philippines

Pick the Philippines when you need voices on the phone through the American night. Pick India when you need a bench of specialists at a scale no single studio can match. Pick Pakistan when you want senior people on one account for a lower fee, in a studio that keeps your hours. We are the third, and the checks below apply to all three, including us.

In detail

Three countries, the same rows

India and the PhilippinesPakistan
Working hours for a US clientIndia: your morning is their evening; large firms run night shifts. The Philippines: an industry built on the American night, so a shift covers your whole dayHalf an hour from India’s clock, the same evening overlap; ours is in the contract as the New York day
EnglishIndia: strong written English in the British habit, the largest pool. The Philippines: spoken English with an American ear, the best on a phoneWritten English in the British habit, spoken English good, the pool smaller
Fee for the same seniorityIndia: the widest spread, from very cheap to close to Western rates. The Philippines: a little higher for voice work, similar otherwiseThe same band as India and often lower; the saving sits in senior time, not junior volume
TurnoverIndia: high in the big hubs, where a good person has ten employers within a mile. The Philippines: high in the call-centre sector, lower in small studiosLess movement between employers because there are fewer of them; the best people emigrate instead
Scale on offerIndia: thousands of seats if you want them. The Philippines: hundreds, mostly in supportStudios rather than floors; a handful of accounts read by senior people
Recourse when it goes wrongIndia: a contract enforceable in theory, at a cost that rarely makes sense. The Philippines: the sameThe same; structure replaces the courts, so hold the assets and the spend
Where each one winsIndia: engineering benches and specialist depth. The Philippines: support, voice and coverage through your nightSenior attention on one account, and anything sold inside Pakistan

When is the Philippines the better choice?

When the work is a voice. Customer support, order confirmation calls, live chat through the American night: the Philippine industry grew up around exactly this, the spoken English carries an American ear, and the shifts already exist. If you are buying coverage, a person awake and answering while you sleep, the Philippines does it better than Pakistan or India, and we would say so. It is also the stronger choice when your brand voice is conversational American and the words will be spoken aloud rather than read.

When is India the better choice?

When you need depth and scale at once. India has the largest pool of specialists in the region, and a large Indian agency can put an analyst, a feed specialist and a developer on your account without strain, as no studio in Karachi or Manila can. If you run campaigns across many markets, need an engineering bench of dozens, or want a named specialist for every discipline, India is the honest answer. What you trade for it is layers: the people who pitch are rarely the people who do the work, and the account manager between you is part of the fee.

When does Pakistan make sense?

When the account is one brand with one number and what you want is senior people reading it every week rather than a floor of juniors. The Pakistani industry is younger and smaller than India’s, which cuts both ways: fewer famous names to point to, fewer layers between you and the work, and a fee that buys the founder’s attention rather than a coordinator’s. It is also the obvious choice when you sell inside Pakistan, where the inbox, cash on delivery and the courier are the whole funnel. We are in Karachi, keep New York hours, and run exactly that kind of account.

What to check, whatever the flag

  1. 01

    Time the reply

Message the agency at the end of its stated overlap window and note when the answer arrives. Every country has agencies that keep their window and agencies that promise it.

  2. 02

Read the copy as a customer

Pay for one short brief and judge it as the buyer would, not as the client. Fluent English and English for your market are different skills in all three countries.

  3. 03

Ask who leaves and what stays

Not the retention rate, which nobody answers badly. Ask what a replacement would receive on their first morning, and ask to see it.

  4. 04

Find out who holds the spend

Ad budget routed through an agency abroad is money you cannot easily recover. It goes from your card to the platform, or you walk.

  5. 05

    Price the exit

Monthly billing, thirty days’ notice, accounts in your name. If leaving costs more than a month, the geography is the least of your risks.

Where we sit in this

Frank Zoller Authentic History, a militaria auction house in the United States, had its listing platform built here: photographs in, auction rows out, a 32,000-item reference set behind it, live for the auction of 16 August, 400+ hours saved so far. The Gettysburg Museum of History in Pennsylvania has its short films, its October campaign and its search pages made here too. Neither client chose a country. Both chose a studio and tested it, which is the order we would recommend whichever flag you are looking at.

We are not the cheap option among the three and do not pretend to be. The fee buys senior attention on your working day; if you need a floor of seats or a desk that never sleeps, one of the other two is the better buy.

FAQ
Is Pakistan cheaper than India for an agency?

Broadly the same band, and sometimes lower for senior time. The saving is never the reason to choose any of the three; the fee buys attention, and attention is what to compare.

Which country has the best English for US copy?

The Philippines for spoken, American-inflected English; India and Pakistan for written English in the British habit. None of that replaces a paid test brief judged by someone from your market.

Do you keep US hours from Karachi?

Yes. The New York working day, written into the contract with the days it applies, so review calls happen inside your day rather than at the edge of ours.

What if I need coverage around the clock?

Then you need a support operation, and the Philippines is the better place to look for it. We run marketing on your working day, not a help desk through the night.

Who owns the accounts and the work?

You do, in any of the three countries if the contract says so, and with us it always does. Ask before signing rather than after.

No deck. No discovery theatre. One metric, one date, in the contract.

Tell us the number.
And the date.
